ABOUT ME

My name is Julia Lampman, raised in King Ferry, NY.

I was brought up on my mother's plant nursery, Bedlam Gardens.

My father started his tree business slowly while working local dairy farms. Started with a tractor and a couple of sons they went from logging to residential and so much more. Today my father (Jeffrey Sr.) and brother (Andrew) run their own tree service and logging company, The Lampman Family Tree Service.

My focus originally was in wildlife and I went on to Finger Lakes Community College in Canandaigua, NY from August 2011 to May 2013 where I received an Associates in Environmental Studies. Afterwards I moved to Syracuse, NY to attend SUNY- College of Environmental Science and Forestry. The next three years I got a bachelors in Wildlife Science and a minor in Recreation Resource Protected Area Management. While finishing up my undergrad I came to enjoy all the ins and outs of Forest Ecology; therefore continuing my stay at ESF, in 2018 I received my Master's of Forestry.

In 2019 I moved to Rapid City, South Dakota to be a Forest Technician for the Black Hills National Forest, Mystic Ranger District. As a seasonal timber tech, most of my time was laying out, marking and GPSing timber management units in different management zones throughout the forest. I also ran a small crew for timber reconnaissance, doing sampling plots over management areas to find potential harvest units. Layout and methods in the West were much different than what I was use to in the Northeast, considering it was nothing but Ponderosa pine, but still used the basic principles.

In September, 2020, I was offered a permanent position with the Ozark- St. Francis National Forests, stationed at the Pleasanthill Ranger District in Clarksville, Arkansas. Two different management types were used in reference to our Southern Yellow Pine management areas vs the Oak and mixed hardwood areas. Loblolly pine was planted heavily in the past, slowly working to removed them and to reintroduce the more native Short-leaf pine which requires fire during its grass stage to compete with herbaceous cover. I completed my time with the Forest Service in October of 2021 before moving back to NY.

Since I've been back I have been trying to do some of my own consulting work. Some with my father and the family and with another timber purchaser from the small sawmill Brookside Lumber inc. in Moravia NY where I did a summer internship for grad school. Slowly making contacts through the industry I am just starting out and willing to work with small and large landowners whether it would be just for a commercial harvests, management plans (harvest focused or wildlife focused) land trust deals, or 480As.
